ZIMAM traces its roots back to 2016, when a group of digital health leaders from across the GCC region began informal discussions on the sidelines of the HIMSS ME Summit in 2016 and 2017 to address a collaborative response to the lack of awareness on the paramount importance of sustaining future-ready digital health workforce.
This side-discussions forged a collective vision, fueled by passion and relentless effort that led to establishing ZIMAM as non-for-profit initiative.
November 2018, marked the beginning of our flagship annual conference, namely the GCC eHealth Workforce Development Conference, now recognized as a cornerstone event advancing digital health professionalism and sharpening the digital health skills of health workforce across the GCC region.
In September 2023, ZIMAM evolved from just an initiative to a registered non-governmental organization based in Geneva, expanding our international partnerships and accelerating our global mission with a special focus on Middle East and Low-and Medium-Income countries. A board of directors was established by ZIMAM's co-founder to provide oversight and guidance to set the organization's strategic direction, programs and governance model.
In August 2025, we launched our official website and membership portal, opening new opportunities for members to engage, collaborate, and access exclusive resources. We have also re-branded the name of our annual conference to reflect both ZIMAM's global expansion and re-visited strategy.
